My first DIY skirts made me cry.
Many years ago, I was sitting on the floor in my apartment, and trying to figure out what I did wrong.
I had spent a countless number of hours trying to figure out how to make this gorgeous skirt that was worn by my favourite dancer.

The skirt had no stretch, so I couldn't even get in it. Both the waistband and the hem were uneven. The fabric didn't have enough substance, and the skirt felt cheap (even though the fabric was expensive!)
Today I know exactly what I did wrong. I had chosen the wrong fabric, the pattern wasn't right, and I used the wrong sewing techniques.
But back then, I had no idea. It was simply a massive failure. I was so frustrated and close to tears.

After the first DIY skirt failure, I tried again and again and finally learned some tricks and techniques to make a good dance skirt and create different beautiful patterns.

How I turned my wishful thinking into reality
I was super excited about this multiple looks in 1 skirt idea.

In the process, I learned there are many obstacles against successfully incorporating these design features. For example,
- you need a good, tested pattern for the drapes to work every time.
- you need different styles of waistbands for different types of cutouts to make the skirts look good.
- you need a specific technique for attaching horsehair braid so it looks like it was made by a costume designer.
Needless to say, I spent weeks after weeks testing and tackling these obstacles one by one.
