Join Sparkly Belly's brand new premium course "Aurora Convertible Skirt Premium Course" and make a modern, designer-looking 3-in-1 skirt that will make your dancer friends envious!
Many years ago, I was sitting on the floor in my apartment, and trying to figure out what I did wrong.
I had spent a countless number of hours trying to figure out how to make this gorgeous skirt that was worn by my favourite dancer.
It was like a mermaid skirt, but a little looser and more flowy, so it created such a dramatic effect when the dancer twirled.
I had also spent many hours hunting for the right fabric. I visited all the local fabric stores and chose this cute, lightweight black and white polka dot fabric.
I finally summoned up the courage to take my scissors and cut the fabric and started sewing....
Several hours of struggles later, there I was, sitting in the middle of scrap fabrics and what was supposed to be my dream skirt.
The skirt had no stretch, so I couldn't even get in it. Both the waistband and the hem were uneven. The fabric didn't have enough substance, and the skirt felt cheap (even though the fabric was expensive!)
Today I know exactly what I did wrong. I had chosen the wrong fabric, the pattern wasn't right, and I used the wrong sewing techniques.
But back then, I had no idea. It was simply a massive failure. I was so frustrated and close to tears.
After the first DIY skirt failure, I tried again and again and finally learned some tricks and techniques to make a good dance skirt and create different beautiful patterns.
But my heart kept on thinking, "I wish I could have more costumes for the same amount of money I spend on 1 costume."
It's just wishful thinking, I thought.
For costumes, you get what you pay for.
A decent, well-made & well-designed costume will cost you $400, $500, or $1000+.
Even making your own costumes can cost anywhere from $50-200+.
To me, it was not a small amount of money. (it still isn't!)
Plus each costume takes a long time to make (30-40 hours+).
So naturally, I'd love to stretch my time and money further.
Then one day, an idea came to my mind.
"How about a convertible skirt that gives you more than 1 look?"
I was super excited about this multiple looks in 1 skirt idea.
And if I were to create different looks in 1 skirt, I wanted to incorporate many design features that everyone requested through Sparkly Belly over the years.
On the top of the request list were:
For each of these design features, I researched all over the internet to find some hints and techniques.
I thought, "There must be tons of information about them, because I see them used so often by different costume designers!"
I was wrong.
To my disappointment, after hours of searching, I found very little information.
There was quite a bit of information for making a skirt with train, but I found no tutorials for the rest.
So I collected and looked through 100's of belly dance costume photos with these design features, zoomed in and out of these photos and tested lots of pattern designs.
In the process, I learned there are many obstacles against successfully incorporating these design features. For example,
Needless to say, I spent weeks after weeks testing and tackling these obstacles one by one.
And I packed all my findings, patterns, and knowledge in 1 course, and I'm really excited to share it all with you!
There are many secrets that designers haven't/wouldn't share with you:
All of these things take many hours of searching and digging to figure out how to do them properly.
Today I can confidently show you how to create a gorgeous, designer-looking skirt based on your unique measurements.
You'll get to combine many different design features mentioned above to create your very own design.
Plus you'll get MINIMUM 3 looks in 1 skirt.
With all these techniques under your sparkly belt, you'll feel beautiful, money-wise, and professional in your brand-new skirt!
(and your dancer friends will drool over your skirt ;) )

-"I also made two complete sets of the train and the side swags in pink and gray for interchangeability. ...I love how well this costume fits me and how beautiful it makes me feel while dancing. I feel much more confident dancing and have received so many compliments from other dancers as well as audience members." - Sarah
"The skirt was made using the Aurora Convertible Skirt pattern with swags, tail, and horsehair trim. I love the classic style of this costume. The tail and swags gave me the opportunity to use bold blocks and color and texture." - Carol
